THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES* (SW 7/8)

(Version française plus bas)

About six o’clock in the morning. The sun rises over El Salar de Uyuni, a desert of salt of more than 10,000 km2. Shades of yellow and orange in front of me, shades of blue and pink behind me.

The sunlight reveals big cracks on the snow white ground. The result of minerals elbowing their way under the salt cap to breathe in the open. Such a task is easy in Los Ojos del Salar (The Eyes of El Salar), the true lungs of this desert, but a challenge anywhere else.

Underneath the eight cm thick white blanket, salt crystals.

As for the small Island of Pescado, it is inhabited by the tallest cactuses in bloom.
